West coast walnut, approximately 22”h by 18”w by 9”d, lacquer finish

Can you see the horse/goat/deer/bull face in the book-matched grain like many people who have seen this wall-hung cabinet? I see the goat and deer and maybe a pony, but not the bull. I didn’t see any sort of face when the cabinet door was a single length of wood, just attractive grain and the ripples. The board was too pretty to cut into a conventional rectangular because doing so would eliminate some of the board’s beauty. This was the same thinking that had me turning the insect-eaten walnut board into the doors of Uncle Vito’s cabinet. Although the board for this cabinet’s door was not damaged by insects or rot, to impose straight lines upon it seemed like aesthetic folly to me. With this notion, I could simply have hung the book matched board on the wall as wall art, but I thought, why not also make something practical with it. So, the cabinet was born.
