Cherry, paint, glass, approx. 30”h x 18”d x 60”w
I made this sideboard for my brother Carmen and his wife Charlotte. The panels in the doors have been textured with a gouge, and there are rectangles of blue glass let into the side panels. The glass looked lonely when I first put the parts together, so I came up with the idea of the blue trim. I made the piece in the middle of winter in my unheated shop warmed by a kerosene heater, and a few weeks later, when my wife took the photographs, we discovered that the top had cupped, likely because of the hot air heating system (since I had applied finish to the underside). I wanted the top to settle down a bit before I took any measures and, thankfully, when I saw the piece four months later in May, the top had decided to behave and now rested where it should be.
